Lecture 1 : Introduction
29.03.2021(Week 1)
Mr Vinod briefed us with the module information. This advanced typography is way harder than the previous one. Mr Vinod played the lecture video on Typography Systems. We learned 8 systems. These systems we will need to use them later. - Axial system: elements are organized on the left or right side of a single axis.
- Radial system: Design from a central point of focus.
- Dilatational system: Design along a circular path.
- Random system: Spontaneous design.
- Grid system: Design with vertical and horizontal divisions.
- Transitional system: Design with shifted bands and layers.
- Modular system: Design with standardized units.
- Bilateral system: Design that symmetrical to an axis.

Exercises
Typographic Systems (Week 1-2)
Our first task was to use the 8 systems taught in the class, and then we need to use them to create 8 pieces of design related to them. Include axial system, radial system, dilatational system, random system, grid system, transitional system, modular system, and bilateral system. These are the designs I made.
Radial system
dilatational system
random system
grid system
transitional system
modular system
bilateral system
After hearing the feedback and explanation, I decided to change some of my designs, this is the final outcome.
Type and Play: Part 1 (Week 2-4)
For this exercise, we were asked to choose any image. Such as landscape, leaf, plant, bush, clouds, branches. After that, we should analyse, dissect, and identify potential letterforms within the dissected image.
I chose this photo from the public park behind my live place.
Letter A
Letter Y
Letter X
Letter H
Letter P

Feedback
Week 1 :
I shown my typographic system posters to my groupmates, they said my work is simple and clear, which is nice but i still need to improve.
Week 2:
I shown my 8 typographic systems to my groupmates, they gave me the feedback and how they feel about my works. Then, I need to update my works and fix issues, such as
change fonts to make them easier to read, change the modular system one and make it more like modular, for dilatational system I need to add more contrast, random system is not chaos enough.
Week 3:
I shown my work to Mr Vinod, and he said my letter took from branches shouldn't have sharp edges, they also need to be look more like branches.
Week 4:
1. I shown my work to my groupmates, they said my letter A and X is way thicker than the other letters. Also, I need to find a font as a reference font.
2. For type and play part 2.Mr Vinod said I shouldn't draw on the texts but try to warp them.
Week 5:
My groupmates said my word 'steam' looks awesome. Has no problem with it.
Reflections
Experience
I think this subject is way difficult than the Typography in the first semester. As the subject name add a advanced at the front. The difficulty level up. In this subject, we play around with different typefaces and put them into different places. It's fun but difficult. I enjoy this class and I want to improve more on my work.
Observation
At the first time I touch on typography, I knew this is not a easy class for me, to be honest, I'm not really good at design a type. However, I still need to get the credits from this class and improve more on my work.
Findings
Because I'm not good at typography, so I normally would get some difficultys that other classmates won't get and I need to figure out by myself. Advanced Typography is way difficult than the normal Typography in the first semester. So I need to get ready for the following difficultys that I have to face at. Work and improve.
